Research Based

Pathways to Reading is a research based professional development teacher training program and K-2 reading curriculum. PTR is grounded/focused in/on the five components of the reading process identified through the research of the National Reading Panel and the National Reading Council:

The primary focus of PTR is the foundational knowledge and skills needed by teachers to teach beginning reading and what beginning readers need to develop phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency. The components of vocabulary and comprehension are taught based on the knowledge and skill development level of the students.

The relationship of the five components of the reading process is diagramed in the Simple View of Reading presented by Gough, Juel & Griffith. This outline serves as the foundation for PTR continuums and instructional strategies.
