In 2010 McRel (Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning – regional center for the U.S. Dept. of Ed.) studied the effect of Pathways to Reading training in the knowledge and skills necessary for teachers to teach beginning reading. The results indicated a linear and positive trend associating more advanced PTR training with higher performance on a test of knowledge about teaching beginning reading.
A summary of the study and the full study report are available for your review. The online survey used for the study was based on the Test of Basic Skills for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (Cheesman, McGuire, Stankweiler, & Coyne, 2009).
Data are available from teachers, buildings and school districts that implement PTR instructional strategies and curriculum. References provided based on assessments used (Dibels, MAP, AIMS Web, DRA, Guided Reading), geographic area, and setting and size of school or district.
